子どもがお手伝いをしたとき、子どもをほめないことが大切なんだ。「いい子だね」とか「えらいぞ」というほめ言葉ではなく、子どもが手伝ってくれたことを感謝して、喜ぶのが「正解」なんだと。子どもにとって親は大きな存在。そんな親から「ありがとう」「助かった」「嬉しかったよ」という気持ちが伝われば、これほど嬉しいことはない。「ほめ言葉」という報酬のためのお手伝いではなく、「役立つこと」の喜びそのものが報酬になるのだ。
